Very true.

Hopefully they would get some help getting it set up and learning to use it (the program, anyway), but I get an awful lot of people who are frustrated with the experience of having computer-savvy people try to teach them how to use a computer.

A resolution of 1280x1024 also implies a relatively new computer. I suppose some in the target audience will have a new computer, but I'll bet that many more of them will be trying to use their children's cast-offs.

hmcahyo:

With 128MB RAM, I don't think you need deli linux. Have you tried using the search at Linux.org's site?

Hi,
have you try to put in /etc/resolv.conf your name server?
I've DeLi 0.7.2 up and running on a 486DX2 with 20 Mo of RAM and Internet is working.
In /etc/resolv.conf, it has to be written like this:

nameserver dns.of.your.provider1
nameserver dns.of.your.provider2

where you replace by the IPs if you know them or by the IP of your router if you use one (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1).

Good luck!

I agree with your comments about the NIH toolkit. I have just written a blog post about this toolkit and discussed one of your comments about the toolkit here: http://seniorfriendlylibraries.blogspot.com/2007/11/nih-toolkit-for-teaching-older-adults.html

Sam,

I found the transitions were one of the important details in exporting to Quicktime. First, I checked that all the transitions were uniform (followed the same "pattern"), then I looked very carefully at each transition. Some required just a few second, some longer, and the timings were not always the same in Quicktime as they were in Keynote. I exported several times to check the results before I got it right. Finally, I had to adjust *where* the timings were (before, within, at the end). Having a lot of transitions on one slide didn't work very well, so I took all the transitions out and made individual slides out of those transitions. Bottom line: just because it turns out great in keynote doesn't mean it's going to work as beautifully in Quicktime! You may need to change the way you have it in keynote to make it work the same in Quicktime.

I find that every time I export to Quicktime all my transitions are lagging. It looks crap. Do you know what that would be from?

You should check out Jing for making screenshots and notes. It works so well...I'm a total addict now that I've been informed of its existence. :)
